PENNY (Chihuahua)

💔 LAWRENCEVILLE, GA... Meet Penny 💔

There is broken... and then there is Penny.

Our tiny 4.5-pound, one-year-old munchkin endured injuries so devastating that we don't even want to imagine what she has been through.

Penny was found barely able to move on Annistown Road in Snellville, Georgia. A Good Samaritan rushed her to a local emergency hospital, where she was later transferred to Gwinnett Animal Welfare before making her way to Noah's Arks Rescue.

The extent of her injuries is heartbreaking. Penny suffered multiple pelvic fractures, a sacral wing fracture, a sacrocaudal dislocation, a severe tail injury where the tail was pulled away from her body, profound anemia, and was painfully thin. Nearly every structure in her tiny pelvic region had been damaged.

The surgeons were amazed that she was even able to move. Because her little body was so fragile, the first priority was performing extensive imaging to determine exactly what was broken and whether surgery would even be possible. She remained hospitalized while her anemia improved and her body had time to stabilize before any decisions could be made.

One of the most disturbing injuries was to her tail. Based on the nature of the damage, the surgeons believe it was caused by severe traction to the tail. Whatever happened to Penny, it was catastrophic.

For the past six weeks, Penny has remained on strict cage rest while receiving around-the-clock medical care, rehabilitation, proper nutrition, and endless love. Tiny dogs like Penny are especially vulnerable. Whether through abuse, neglect, accidents, or rough handling, they can suffer life-changing injuries because of how incredibly fragile they are. That is why we are extraordinarily careful when placing little dogs into adoptive homes. They deserve families who truly understand just how delicate they are.

Everyone involved in Penny's care is amazed that she survived. Given the severity of her injuries and her tiny size, she has overcome incredible odds.

Today, Penny is healing beautifully.

We have gradually reduced her pain medication, and she now spends much of her day with her best friend, Spud. Wherever Spud goes, Penny happily follows. Walking beside him has become part of her rehabilitation, helping her rebuild both confidence and strength.

Even more encouraging, Penny is walking without obvious signs that her gait has been permanently affected by all of the fractures and dislocations. She will remain on restricted activity for another month before follow-up X-rays determine how much healing has taken place and whether any surgery will ultimately benefit her.

At this point, we have no intention of operating unless it is truly in Penny's best interest. If she continues to walk comfortably and live without pain, we will leave well enough alone. Right now, what her little body needs most is time to heal, rebuild muscle, and regain bone strength.

Penny's medical expenses have been significant. Emergency care, hospitalization, advanced imaging, specialists, rehabilitation, medications, and follow-up care have all added up quickly.

If you are able, please consider making a donation to help give Penny the best possible chance at a long, healthy, and happy life.

Every dollar goes directly toward saving dogs like Penny, who have nowhere else to turn.

Thank you for caring about Penny and the many abused and neglected dogs at Noah's Arks Rescue. We receive no government funding and rely entirely on the generosity of individual donors to provide the lifesaving care our precious pups deserve.
