SPUD (Chihuahua)
Lawrenceville, GA...I am seeing more abused and neglected tiny pups than ever before. In all my years of rescue, the little ones were usually the ones people protected and looked after. Sadly, that no longer seems to be the case. Over the last few months, we have rescued far too many small dogs that have been seriously injured and left to fend for themselves.
Sweet Spud was picked up on Five Forks Trickum Road in Lawrenceville, Georgia, and taken to Gwinnett County Animal Care. He had no tags, no microchip, and no one reported him missing. He was found injured, hobbling around in unimaginable pain.
When it became clear that no one was coming for him, Noah's Arks Rescue was contacted. We immediately arranged transport and brought this precious little boy into our care.
Spud was diagnosed with a fractured pelvis, a dislocated left hip, and a swollen left knee. He recently underwent surgery for an FHO (Femoral Head Ostectomy) to repair his hip. It is still too soon to surgically address the fractured pelvis, and our hope is that it will heal on its own. If it does not, Spud may require another surgery involving plates and pins to stabilize the injury.
Our precious boy is an 8-year-old Chihuahua weighing only 9 pounds. He is understandably a little frightened at first, but quickly warms up once he realizes he is safe and surrounded by people who care about him.
We don't know exactly what happened to Spud. If he had been hit by a car, it is likely there would have been additional injuries due to his tiny size. Perhaps he was stepped on, caught in a door, or suffered some other trauma. Whatever happened, no animal deserves to be abandoned while injured and unable to care for itself. What we do know is that no one came looking for him.
Despite everything he has endured, Spud remains a sweet and loving little soul. Once he heals, he will make an amazing companion for a family that truly cherishes and adores little dogs. He is perfect in every way.
Please consider giving Spud the Gift of Life by donating toward his medical care and recovery. Your support makes it possible for dogs like Spud to receive the surgeries, treatment, and love they need to heal and begin a new chapter.
