Hurricane DORIAN
Hurricane Dorian has left the Lowcountry of South Carolina. We made a collective decision and decided not to evacuate this time for Dorian. We have 35 dogs that each have significant medical issues, and over half are Pitbulls. So many places have Pitbull bans that we were not going to risk anything happening to our pups. All but one of our Staff decided the safest place for our pups was to hunker down at our Rehab Facility in Okatie, SC.
ANNA BELLE (Boxer Mix)
ST. HELENA, SC.....I am always amazed at how a beautiful injured dog is left on the side of the road with no one willing to help. Even more disturbing is the fact no one is looking for this sweet dog.
WALTER (Beagle)
LAWRENCEVILLE, GEORGIA......One Man's Trash is another Man's Treasure is something I say regularly. A dog gives his entire Life to a Family only to be discarded when he gets too old to either hunt or produce pups. Life of a Hunting Dog is hard every day when the Owners treat them like property and not part of a Family to be loved and nurtured.
OZZIE (Cattle Dog)
VIDALIA, GA.....We were contacted by another rescue in Vidalia, GA, about a two-year-old Australian Cattle Dog that needed help. Ozzie had wandered up to a home four weeks ago in terrible shape in Jeff Davis County, Georgia. After being there for a few weeks, the Home Owner called a rescue in the area to help Ozzie.
BETTY (Chihuahua)
ANDERSON, SC....Can you imagine and tiny dog being so scared that she would do anything to get away from humans. Betty was picked up as a stray in Anderson, SC with a sizeable Tumor or Hernia. We were told that she was shy and was scared of humans, but she needed help or would be put down. I agreed to help her, so she could get out and get the emotional support and surgery that she needed.
PATCHES (Jack Russell)
GREENVILLE, SC.....Adorable Patches was brought to the Vet by her owners. She is a Jack Russell Mix they said was 12 years old. Her records say she was obese at the time and had a bad heart murmur and would not eat. They gave the family meds with strict instructions on how to provide them, and over the next five months, she was brought back to the Vet several times.
MoMo ( Lab / Pittie)
OKATIE, SC......Adorable MoMo was rescued from Greenville, SC. She was dropped off at Animal Control by her Owner that claimed she was a stray. MoMo was called Elmo at the time, but the name did not fit her adorable personality. She is a Pitbull / Lab Mix that is approximately two years old. When MoMo arrived at the Shelter, she could barely walk and looked like something terrible was wrong. Animal Control could not come up with a reason for her lameness since nothing showed on her x-rays.
WILLOW
BEAUFORT, SC.....W e never know the actual story of the pups we save. All we know are the injuries and abuse that show directly on their body on in their mental state when we find them. Fourth of July came and went without any significant catastrophes in our area. We didn't get notices of lost dogs or major injuries which is wonderful for this holiday since animals are petrified of fireworks and the noises they make. I thought we were spared the horrors until we got a call from Beaufort County. They had picked up a young two-year-old Pitbull that was barely able to walk.
LATTE (Wire-Haired Terrier)
SENECA, SC.....Adorable Latte is a 10-month-old Wire-Haired Terrier that was surrendered to the Oconee County Animal Shelter. The Owner said they did not have any time for her. Latte had not been given any medical care since she was born and was now Heartworm positive at ten months old. We were contacted to help Latte when the Shelter discovered she had a Heart Condition.
PENNY (German SHP)
CHARLESTON, SC.....It seems like everyone wants a special pup they are willing to pay for, but when they get hurt, they want the puppy euthanized instead of fixing the problem. I hear this all day long in desperate pleads to help a dog that was hit by a car or has a bowel obstruction from eating a toy they should have never had. The ailments go on and on, and the common factor is too many people want a puppy but do not want the responsibility that comes with Ownership.
